 Spain

Hello! I’m a Spanish student I am from Ibi in Alicante. Kindergarten, primary and secondary school, where I study, are called Salesianos Nuestra Senyora de los Desamparados and pupils start there at the age of 3, primary at the age of 6 and secondary at 12. We have got 6 or 7 hours a day from 8am to 2pm or 3pm. In Spain we can study only two foreign languages (normally): English, that’s obligated, and French, it’s not compulsory. You learn Valencian (Valencia), Catalan (Catalunya), Euskera (Pais Vasco) and Gallego (Galicia) depending where you live. Then you can continue study going at workstages (to go to university) or work.
In my school you can do some sports like football and basketball, these are the most famous.
Our subjects are: Maths, Spanish, Physical Education, English, History, Geography, Biology, Physic, Music, Information Technology , French and Religion. Some of these are not obligated depending on the year you are attending.

 France

French children start school at the age of six. Schooling is compulsory  for 6 – 16 years old. Families can choose if they want to send their children to a free Public school or  to private one and pay for it. If they choose state run school for their child, they must choose one in their neighbourhood area. From the age of 2 or 3 children can attend the local kindergarten.

15-16 year-olds attend either academic ‘lycée’ or vocational/technical school.

Lycée students take a “ baccalauréat “ high school diploma at the 18 or 19. Baccalauréat guarantees student’s entry into university.

 England

School is compulsory from 5 to 16. English school system is divided in different sections that are Nursery, Primary school, Secondary school and College or University.

There are the States schools and the independent schools ( or public schools).

Most of the State schools are either Comprehensive, Foundation or Grammar schools.

At the end of compulsory school period at 16, students pass the GCSE exam. If the exam is successful then it’s possible to attend a 2 year preparation in a College or a Sixth Form Centre to pass the A-levels.  Usually pupils choose three subjects to pass for their exam. About 90% of the English pupils are in state schools.

 Finland

Hi,  I'm a 17-year-old finnish girl and I'm going to tell you a little bit about finnish school system. In Finland children start schooling at the age of 7 in elementary school. Elementary school takes 6 years and after that pupils go to secondary school that takes 3 years.  After secondary school schooling is not compulsory anymore but still most of the young people attend to  either upper  secondary school or vocational school.  Vocational school is around 2 years and upper seconday school can take 2 to 4 years depending on the studying tempo of the students.  In upper secondary  school a student must read trough 75 courses and it ends to a matriculation exmination.  After upper secondary school students can choose if they want to continue studying for ex. in some university or in other institutions of higher education or go to work. Students from vocational schools can also continue studying at a polytechnic school

 Germany

Germany: Heya, I’m a 16 year old girl from Germany and I want to tell you something about the school system in Germany. It is not that difficult!
You have to go to the primary school in the age of 6, for 4 years. It is new in Germany that the young pupils learn English there. After the primary school you have to go to the secondary school, which is dispose in 4 parts.

Gymnasium:

The pupils, who were very good at primary school, will visit after the 4 years primary school the Gymnasium. The students who go to this school learn fast and hard. After 13 years you get the matriculation examination (Abitur).

Realschule:

This is a school for the good students also, but it is not so hard, like the Gymnasium. After 13 years you get the matriculation examination ( Abitur) , but you can leave the school earlier after 10 years and get yourself a job.

Hauptschule:

The “Hauptschule” is teaching the slow learner and not those good pupils. After 10 years this school ends and normally these people go to work.

Gesamntschule

This is a school for pupils who are too good for the “Hauptschule” but don’t want to visit the Gymnasium or the “Realschule”.  In the 7th class the students will be put in different learning groups in the main subject Math, German and English. (There is one group with the fast learners and another for the slow learners).
The secondary school ends after 10 years, for those who are searching for a job. For those students who want to study, the secondary school ends after 13 years and they will get the matriculation examination (Abitur).
